Our History

The heart behind Desert Road Ministries’ formation was to address the growing concern over ministry leader turnover and spiritual burnout. Each of the co-founders of Desert Road had experienced some form of church hurt themselves and wanted to be a part of the prevention and healing process. On March 1, 2022, the ministry got its start. Meagan Butler, Alexandra Fernbach, and Charlotte Almeida opened an office in Houston, Texas with a mission to enrich the spiritual and mental health of ministry leaders and their families.

Support for the ministry started with devoted family and friends. This faithful support continues to this day. Each year, Desert Road has been able to offer ministry leaders scholarships to receive counseling and neurofeedback services. We had the privilege of being a sponsor for Berean Holiness, a ministry dedicated to helping people disentangle their faiths

from hyper-fundamentalism and/or high-control groups. Our team has also given presentations to different churches and nonprofits to spread awareness on burnout prevention and recovery strategies.

Our ministry invites other counselors who are passionate about ministry leaders to join our remote team and create more accessibility and affordability to those we serve. We offer telehealth services to broaden our reach. Our ministry also serves anyone in our communities looking to grow in their spiritual or mental health.

Desert Road Ministries’ team is unique in that our counselors are seminary trained and licensed in mental health. We are able to work with ministry leaders from a theological, hermeneutical, spiritual, emotional, and mental scope.

One of our clients shared the below testimony:

“Since DRM, I’ve been able to climb out of this dark and gloomy hole, rebuild my mindset, values, beliefs, morals, ethics and goals. This has allowed me to become a stronger faith-based person and mother. It has saved me, which saved my career so that I can continue supporting my family. I now understand what it truly means to be a child of God.”

Another client described their experience this way:

The Desert Road team provided me a place to externally process my circumstances. It’s been a few weeks and I’ve had a great breakthrough in processing the journey. Good things are coming to fruition. It was a great blessing!”

Three years later, our team at Desert Road Ministries is still dedicated to the original mission. Through thoughtfully curated resources and counseling services, our vision is to create a network where clients receive personal healing, encounter God, and live by Jesus’ example in their community. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve in this way.
